The Mayor of London has today announced that every Londoner with a non ULEZ-compliant car will be eligible for a £2,000 grant when they scrap their car. The Mayor said that expanding the ULEZ London-wide was a difficult decision but he remains committed to pushing ahead on 29 August in order to save lives, protect children’s lungs and tackle the climate emergency.
To access the grant it is advisable to first check that your vehicle is eligible on the TFL website: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/ultra-low-emission-zone/scrappage-schemes/car-and-motorcycle
The grant application must be made on or after 21 August 2023 through a London Road User Charging (RUC) Account. If you do not have one you can create one here: https://tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/account-create-account-29278
Before receiving the grant the vehicle must be scrapped at an Authorised Treatment Facility where you will be given a Certificate of Destruction – you can search for a convenient one by postcode here: https://www.gov.uk/find-vehicle-scrapyard Most vehicle scrappage companies give customers money for their vehicle on top of the TfL grant – meaning you could get more than the £2,000 offered.
