Market insight: Have EVs reached price parity with ICE in the used market?

A common complaint about electric cars is that they are way more expensive than petrol and diesel models. This used to be true and entry level is still at a higher point than for petrol or diesel, but if your budget is £15k+, there are options at pricing on a par or less than the ICE equivalent. We have been looking at these options and here are a few examples of our favourites:

 £15,000 budget (good savings available)

  • 18 month old 72 plate Nissan Leaf with 140 mile range is around £6k cheaper than the equivalent petrol Nissan Juke 1.6 auto which costs around £21k.
  • 3 year old Peugeot e-208 with 150 mile range is around £1k cheaper than the equivalent trim petrol auto model which cost around £16k.

£20,000 budget (on a par with ICE alternatives)

  • 3 year old VW ID.3 with 200 miles of range is available at the same price as a 3 year old petrol Golf 1.5 auto but the ID.3 gives more space and acceleration.
  • 2 year old Peugeot e-2008 with 150 miles of range is price equivalent to a 2 year old petrol auto 1.2 model but the electric version is a second quicker 0-60mph!

£25,000 budget (some savings can be found)

  • 2023 Renault Megane e-tech with 235 miles of range is available £5k cheaper than an equivalent luxury family SUV like a 2023 Mazda CX-5 2.0 petrol auto.
  • 2 year old Skoda Enyaq iV 60 with 200 miles of range costs about the same as a Kodiaq 2.0TDi diesel 5 seater (the petrol 1.5 is a little cheaper but loses out on performance to the electric Enyaq).

Premium budget (some great savings, some great models)

  • 2023 Audi Q4 e-tron with 250 miles of range and 520l of bootspace costs about £10k less than the equivalent one year old Q5 2.0 TFSI S-Line!
  • 2023 Skoda Enyaq iV AWD 80 SportLine Plus with 270 miles of range for about the same price as a new Kia Sportage AWD 1.6 petrol but the Enyaq gives more boot and cabin space and is over a second quicker 0-60mph!

Performance models (some big savings, amazing models)

  • 18 month old Polestar 2 dual motor performance with 469bhp, launch control and 250 miles of range has equivalent performance to a BMW M340i xDrive but is available £8k cheaper and with huge savings on fuelling and maintenance costs too.
  • 18 month old Cupra Born V2 with 230bhp, e-boost pack and just over 200 miles of range has equivalent performance to a VW Golf GTI 2.0 TSI DSG but is available £5k cheaper, offers superb RWD handling and more cabin and boot space too.
