Labour supports switch to electric cars

The Chancellor confirmed today that transport is key to the Government’s clean energy mission and that they are fully committed to the switch to electric cars. Over £200 million will be invested across the country in 2025-26 to accelerate the rollout of public EV charging infrastructure, including on-street charge points. The Government also confirmed that the ban on the sale of new cars solely fuelled by petrol or diesel will be pulled back to 2030.

The Chancellor announced that fully electric cars will enjoy cheaper vehicle excise duty (VED) to the road tax paid by petrol, diesel and hybrid vehicles with more details on rates and applicability to follow.

Great news for electric company car drivers: the ultra low benefit in kind (BIK) rates for fully electric cars will continue beyond April 2025. Currently the BIK rate for an electric car is just 2% compared to 37% for a car in the highest category of emissions. It will increase by 1% per year between 2025 and 2028 and then by 2% per year in 2028 and 2029, topping out at 9%. At the same time the BIK rates for hybrids will increase to 18% in 2028/19% in 2029 and the highest emission ICE cars will increase to 39%. This makes electric car ownership really attractive for business owners and employees purchasing a secondhand or new car through a company.

With used EVs priced below or on a par with their petrol and diesel equivalents (and significantly less than hybrids), there has never been a better time to buy a secondhand electric car.  Come and talk to EV Experts today about making that switch and let us find you the perfect EV for your lifestyle, budget and driving style.   https://www.evexperts.co.uk/electric-cars-for-sale/
