Grants for small and medium-sized businesses switching to EVs

A number of grants and incentives are available for businesses switching to EVs and we have been taking a look at where and how to access these.

The Greener Futures Team at Surrey County Council are helping businesses apply for non-repayable grants from the Low Carbon Across the South and East (LoCASE) programme.  Their aim is to help businesses become more profitable while protecting the environment and encouraging low carbon solutions.  The grants are for up to 40% (maximum £20k) of the eligible costs for projects designed to cut energy costs through energy efficiency improvements, including switching to a used EV.

There are eligibility criteria, for example you must be a business that:

  • employs fewer than 250 (FTE) employees
  • has an annual turnover of £44M or less and an annual balance sheet of £38M or less
  • has not received more than £200k of state aid in the last three years

To find out more about the grant and eligibility criteria, email lowcarbon@surreycc.gov.uk

The EV infrastructure grant for staff and fleets from the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles covers up to 75% of the cost of installing the parking and charging infrastructure needed (maximum £15k).  You can get up to:

  • £350 per chargepoint socket installed
  • £500 per parking space enabled with supporting infrastructure

Your EV chargepoint installer will apply for the grant on your behalf but you can find more details and eligibility criteria here: https://www.find-government-grants.service.gov.uk/grants/ev-infrastructure-grant-for-staff-and-fleets

Coupled with the beneficial benefit in kind rates that apply to electric cars – just 2% right now – this is a great time to look at switching away from ICE company cars.  Contact us today to discuss which EVs suit your business.
