Ruby preferred the back seats folded down - they fold together and flat to make a generous, practical space with a maximum height of 66cm.
Mini Electric Cooper S

The seats fold down separately creating a stepped area but in the deepest section Ruby could stand tall with the maximum height a helpful 70cm.
VW e-Up!/Seat Mii/Skoda Citigo
251 to 959 litre boot capacity
The seats fold separately to create a flat base when a variable floor is installed but a max height of 77cm or if using the full depth of the boot as Ruby is here, there's 91cm of height plus room for cables (and treats) underneath!
BMW i3/i3S
260 to 1,100 litre boot capacity
Seats fold down separately and flat creating a large-SUV-sized space with a max height of 64cm. Plenty of room for Ruby, luggage and a backseat passenger.
Mazda MX-30
350 to 1,155 litre boot capacity
The seats fold down with a 60:40 split but Ruby fitted comfortably in the boot itself which has a max height of 70cm. In fact there was room for a friend making the Mazda Ruby’s favourite, all things considered!
Peugeot E-208/Vauxhall Corsa-E
311/267 to 1,106/1,081 litre boot capacities
Seats fold down with a 60:40 split in these popular hot hatches which offer a maximum height of 76cm. These weren’t Ruby’s first choice – she felt that more practical EV options were available!
Nissan Leaf second generation
435 to 1,176 litre boot capacity
Seats fold down in a 60:40 split although Ruby found the boot alone had room to spare. Max height is generous at 90cm with a recessed boot floor. Watch out for the BOSE sub-woofer in top spec Teknas, located at the rear of the bootspace.
Peugeot E-2008
434 to 1467 litre boot capacity
Seats fold down in a 60:40 split and there is a height-adjustable removable floor. Max height is 82cm. Ruby loved this model which is one of the largest compact SUVs available and there's plenty of room for a friend. Photographed with floor in the raised position.
VW ID.3 / Cupra Born
385 to 1,601 litre boot capacity
The seats fold down in a 60:40 split and high-spec models have a variable, height-adjustable removable boot floor. Max height is 75cm. Some models include a ski hatch which Ruby thought was a great idea for the passing of snacks en route!
Nissan Ariya FWD
466 to 1,343 litre boot capacity
Seats fold in a 60:40 split and there is a height-adjustable modular floor for flexible storage. Max height is 84cm. Photographed in the lower position. Ruby had room for a party noting that the AWD models have a smaller boot capacity at 408/1278l.
Skoda Enyaq iV

Seats fold in a 60:40 split, although probably not required in this huge boot. Max height is 81cm. There's a ski-hatch and a deep under-floor space for a small bag or charging cables. The retractable parcel shelf is practical for days when hound stays home.

Audi Q4 e-tron Stationwagon
520 to 1,490 litre boot capacity
The seats fold down in a 60:40 split. Max height is a generous 81cm. The Audi was Marley’s favourite, even with the slightly recessed floor, as this increased the head height available. The carpet felt ever so slightly plusher too!
Polestar 2
407 to 1097 litre boot capacity
The seats fold down in a 60:40 split and there is a ski hatch. To travel, Ruby had to recline as the sport back styling reduces head height to a maximum 51cm. Ruby's owner did like the powered tailgate which is available on models with the Plus pack.
Ford Mustang Mach-E
402 to 1,420 litre boot capacity
Seats fold down in a 60:40 split. Max height is 76cm with the adjustable floor removed. A clever cargo screen can remain in place for small dogs or those that travel lying down or removed for a larger 518l boot. Marley found the Mustang short on head space.
